Virtual Bridges, Inc. today announced results from 2011, representing the company’s strongest year to-date. Revenues grew eight times over the previous year driven by sizeable wins across industries and geographies, continuing to prove high demand for the company’s VDI Gen2 solutions.

Virtual Bridges VERDE addresses the three most significant VDI challenges faced by today’s CIO’s: corporate infrastructure management, cloud computing and mobile computing. Featuring integrated support for online, offline and remote branch VDI, VERDE provides a cost-effective, easy-to-use approach to provisioning, managing, updating and securing virtual desktop environments, enabling anytime, anywhere access for users on-the-go.

“We had a tremendous year winning deals against all of the major players in the space,” said Jim Curtin, CEO of Virtual Bridges. “When we introduced VDI Gen2, we knew the industry needed an alternative to first-generation, server-based VDI solutions like VMware and Citrix. Through product innovation and close relationships with our customers and partners, we’re changing the mindset of the industry and driving increased demand for second generation solutions. We’re already off to a strong start in 2012, and expect to see continued momentum in the months ahead.”

2011 highlights included:

  • Strong Sales – Virtual Bridges saw 66 percent growth in sales, across new business and existing customer accounts, with key wins including a 30,000 desktop deployment at Dalian NEUSOFT Institute of Information (NII), and a partnership with iFollowOffice, which will use VERDE as the foundation for its UK-based hosted virtual desktop service.
  •  Diverse Vertical Traction – Customer deployments included strong traction across all vertical segments, including education (K-12 and higher ed), health care, government (municipal and federal) and manufacturing, spanning both mid-market and enterprise markets.
  • Strategic Partnerships – Virtual Bridges expanded its distribution channel, adding numerous new partners including Avnet, ASG, ASUS, CDG, CompuCom, Great Wall, Hitachi, IBM, NDS8, Neusoft, Omni Systems, Rackspace, RASIS, Savvis and SAL Technologies.
  • Product Innovation – Virtual Bridges unveiled new VERDE product features including a patent pending cache I/O storage optimizer technology that removes the CAPEX hurdles associated with VDI and addresses increasing storage costs, and integrated endpoint management that reduces the cost and complexity of PC lifecycle management. The company also worked closely with IBM to develop IBM’s Virtual Desktop for Smart Business (VDSB) which uses VERDE software to deliver workforce mobility across PCs, tablets, netbooks, laptops and thin clients.
  • Industry Accolades – Virtual Bridges was named a “Major Player” in desktop virtualization by IDC; a “Cool Vendor” in Personal Computing by Gartner; an MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Innovation Showcase finalist; winner of the MSPAlliance MSPWorld Cup; a CRN Emerging Technology Vendor; and one of 15 desktop virtualization vendors to watch in CRN’s Virtualization 100.
  • Employee Growth – Virtual Bridges continued to add talent, expanding its team by 75 percent. New hires include industry thought leader and blogger, David Marshall, as well as other additions across sales, marketing, product development and engineering.

VDI Gen2 has set a new standard for desktop virtualization, moving VDI beyond the data center and LAN-bound scenarios to deliver value to on-line, off-line and remote branch users — all from a single management interface. As an independent, cross-platform solution, Virtual Bridges VERDE requires significantly less resources to manage a desktop environment and costs approximately 50 percent less than competitive solutions. VERDE can be installed in less than an hour, and can scale from one to 10,000 servers, each running more than 100 users, to meet the needs of organizations of all sizes.

Virtual Bridges TCEA 2012We’re at the Austin Convention Center this week sponsoring the 32nd TCEA Annual Convention & Exposition where there is a full week of astounding professional development, hands-on and peer-to-peer learning opportunities, exploration of new trends through interactive learning environments, in-depth presentations from educational technology experts, and inspiring keynotes. TCEA’s five-day convention is one of the largest educational technology conventions in the nation and the largest in Texas.  And Virtual Bridges is excited to be a part of it.

You often hear the expression, “Everything’s bigger in Texas,” and this show really does feel BIG!  There’s lots of excitement to go around and a lot of things happening on the exhibit show floor.

We’ve been having some fantastic conversations with attendees so far at the Virtual Bridges booth (#218).  We’re finding that interest in VDI and desktop virtualization technologies is way up at this year’s show.

VDI Gen2We’ve had discussions with folks who have already gone down the road of doing proof of concept (POC) deployments with some of our competitors; but afterwards, they found that these Gen1 offerings just didn’t live up to the hype or promise.  And yet they still find themselves looking for alternative technologies.  And that’s the good news!  VDI Gen1 solutions from our competitors failed to meet the mark, but they haven’t deterred people away from the hope of implementing a VDI solution.  At least, that’s true for most, but not everyone.  We also met a few people who have tried competitor solutions, didn’t have a good experience, and because of that, have given up on VDI altogether.  But after hearing more about VDI Gen2 at our booth, these folks are ready to give the technology another look.

Our team at the show is also hearing a lot about the need to re-purpose old hardware, a common problem within the education system due to recent budget cuts, lack of funding and having to live by the mantra of “do more with less.”  And for those folks, the Virtual Bridges LEAF story is one that they can wrap their arms around and get behind.  LEAF sounds like a great fit for those trying to make do with old hardware but still operate the latest operating systems like Windows 7.

Education administrators are also wanting to maintain control in this new “BYOD world” (Bring Your Own Device) that they are finding themselves in more and more.  As smart phones and tablet use continue to grow, security and control issues continue to remain top of mind discussions for these admins.  So seeing a VDI Gen2 story at work showing off centralized control and management while still providing access for mobility as well as PCs and thin clients in the classroom is really resonating with folks.

If you’re at the show today or tomorrow, make sure to stop by booth #218 and chat with one of our team members at the show.

And if you aren’t able to make it to TCEA 2012, check out the Virtual Bridges VDI for K-12 Web page for more information to get you started down the road of VDI.

Geek or NerdOk, so after digging around the Internet (I have no idea what I was searching for to make this come up, so please don’t ask), I came across what I thought was a pretty interesting Infographic to share with everyone.  In the world of IT, PC admins and the folks working in the brightly lit and arctic temperatures of the data center are used to hearing terms like “geek” and “nerd” thrown around.  I remember it well, though honestly never gave it much thought.  To be honest, geek and nerd mean something totally different today in 2012 than it did in say the 1980′s.  And now, sometimes, it’s even worn as a badge of honor.

While I thought this Infographic was funny and worth sharing with others, I didn’t quite agree with its findings or way of differentiating between the two terms.  Maybe it’s because I’m a PC/Windows/Android user and not a Mac user.  And that hipster thing really threw me for a loop too!  :)

Anyway, I love technology, electronics and gadgets.  And I love working with virtualization and cloud technology!  Geek?  Nerd?  Maybe.  Hipster?  Nah.

What do you think?
Geeks vs Nerds

Virtual Bridges, Inc. announced that iFollowOffice has turned to the recently launched joint offering by Savvis, a CenturyLink company and global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, and Virtual Bridges to provide on-demand managed VDI services to UK clients. With Savvis managed hosting and VERDE VDI Gen2, iFollowOffice customers can reduce the cost and complexity of managing desktops, while minimizing security concerns and business risk.

Savvis and Virtual Bridges partnered earlier this year to deliver virtual desktop management and provisioning capabilities as an on-demand solution to organizations worldwide. With Savvis’ managed hosting platform and VERDE, organizations looking for on-demand managed VDI services now have access to an enterprise-class hosting and cloud infrastructure. Using the joint solution, clients can easily scale their environment to meet fluctuating business demands without sacrificing security or performance, regardless of whether the solution is deployed on a client’s own infrastructure, hosted or delivered as a service by Savvis.

“Savvis and Virtual Bridges understand the needs of global businesses and have created a real alternative to the traditional, painful process of managing desktops,” said Simon Osman, CEO at iFollowOffice. “Working with Savvis and Virtual Bridges, iFollowOffice can now drastically reduce costs and challenges associated with provisioning, updating and securing PC environments for our customers.”

As the industry’s only VDI Gen2 solution, VERDE is designed for organizations that want to escape the constraints of physical computing, simplify desktop management, improve security and increase business agility. Organizations can manage desktops centrally, while users can access both Windows and Linux desktops from any location or device — including PCs, tablets, smartphones, laptops and thin clients.

“When we partnered with Savvis, we saw a significant opportunity to accelerate the market for hosted VDI,” said Jim Curtin, president and CEO at Virtual Bridges. “Together with Savvis, we’re thrilled to provide the technology that enables iFollowOffice to help customers solve today’s most critical desktop management challenges.”

“Businesses today want affordable solutions that are easy to manage and proven to work. Our partnership with Virtual Bridges combines enterprise-grade infrastructure services with second generation VDI solutions,” said Jaywant Rao, vice president, global alliances at Savvis. “The result is a high-value VDI service that is helping organizations like iFollowOffice transform desktop TCO for their clients.”

Prime Time

Baseline magazine published a really nice article earlier this month titled, “Desktop Virtualization Ready for Prime Time,” where they throw out some interesting numbers.

For example, did you know that Gartner reports about 40 percent of all servers have already been virtualized?  And they claim that this figure will likely top 75 percent in only three years!  The analyst firm also found that the worldwide market for VDI will grow from about 500,000 units in 2009 to nearly 49 million units by 2014!!  And the percentage of virtualized desktops will rise from about 10 percent in 2008 to 60 percent in 2012.

And a 2011 study from Imprivata found that 35 percent of healthcare organizations have already adopted desktop virtualization.  At Virtual Bridges, we’re seeing similar things within the healthcare industry as well as other promising verticals that are jumping into desktop virtualization and BYOD initiatives allowing personal laptops and mobile tablets and devices into the corporate network.

Jim Curtin, Founder and CEO of Virtual Bridges, noted that 2012 represents a new playing field for VDI…saying, VDI Gen2 offers a high quality experience for all users, regardless of location.

Read the entire Baseline magazine article here.  And be sure to check out the Virtual Bridges difference and see what VDI Gen2 offers when compared to the old school VDI methods still being peddled by others in the industry.
